This is a touching story of a daughter who breastfeed her father who was sentenced to die by hunger.
The story popularly called Roman Charity, is an exemplary story of Pero, a woman who secretly risked her life to breastfeed her father Cimon, who was in prison after being sentenced to death by starvation.
In the 17th century, during a time when there was no equity, a poor old man Cimon, was sentenced to death by starvation (no food and water), because he stole a loaf of bread.
After he was sentenced, his daughter Pero pleaded to the officials of the court to grant her entrance to visit her father in prison until his death. Pero request was granted. With the instruction that she will not take anything with her into the prison. Pero was often checked by guards before she enters the prison.
The caring daughter (who was with a baby) seeing her father dying of thirst and hunger, she was moved to breastfeed him. She continued to breastfeed him whenever she was allowed into the prison.
Weeks pass by and Cimon was still alive. This got the officials confused. The guards never knew that the man's daughter was sustaining her father's life. The officials setup investigation.
During the investigation she was eventually caught and arrested. Everyone was moved by her action including the guards.
When she was brought before the judge. The judge was surprised by her actions and the length she could went for her father. The judge was moved. And he ordered for her release and he also ordered for the release of her father.
The story is documented in the Roman historic books. And has been immortalized by a statue on top of annex of the Belfry of Ghent in Antwerp, Belgium.
